Album title? Dancehall Days

Where did the title of your new album come from? It’s named after one of the songs on the album. I thought it was reflective of the general mood of the music contained within.

How many releases do you have now? Six albums under the name The Beautiful Girls and two under the name Mat McHugh.

How long did it take to write/record? The album was crowdfunded so I had a three-month period to write, produce and play all the instruments on the album. Not to mention mixing it with my friend Ian Pritchett.

Was anything in particular inspiring you during the making? The crowdfunding gave me a sense of responsibility to the people who had invested their trust in me. I was inspired to take their good faith and make an album that hopefully surpasses their expectations.

What’s your favourite song on it? I could never answer that question and don’t see any reason why I should.

Will you do anything differently next time? I will experiment with different ways of releasing it. I also will try to do the music different to anything that I’ve done before. That’s the whole point right?

When and where is your launch/next gig? 23 Oct, Spirit Bar & Lounge, Traralgon; 25 Oct, 170 Russell; 25 Oct, Barwon Heads Hotel.
