More Cry Club More Cry Club

A new four-part mini-series exploring the power of collaboration, The Newmarket Sessions are today unveiling their first episode, featuring Cry Club and Obscura Hail, premiering via The Music.

The series sees artists such as Surprise Chef, Hachiku, Simon Bruckard and Dylan Martorell collaborating with the New Market Collective to reimagine their work, exploring genres outside of their usual scope.

The series is filmed at Newmarket Studios in Naarm/Melbourne, with each band pairing with the studio's in-house band.

The series travels through a wide range of genres, including classical, indie, cinematic soul, pop to experimental, with the performances building sonic bridges outside of the artists regular fields.

On performing as a part of the sessions, Cry Club stated, "This was such a home-run opportunity for us, getting to do something new, fun, and creative while dealing with lockdowns was truly a breath of fresh air. We’ve always tried to be as ambitious as possible with what we aim to do with our songs, and Newmarket helping us make that happen was an amazing moment for us."

Obscura Hail also reflected the same excitement, stating, "It was a trip to work with such intuitive musicians amongst a professional and loveable crew in a pretty mind-blowing studio. Having an Auslan interpreter present and being able to share our music with a more diverse audience is really special, too. Seeing how the narrative and music were translated gave us a new kind of expressive feedback loop."
