What?

Raised on Wadawurrung Country with a piano in the house and a granny who yodelled at bedtime, Annie-Rose Maloney grew up inspired by the likes of K.D.Lang’s Hymns of the 49th Parallel, The Be Good Tanyas and The Waifs, and between daylighting as a gardener, high school teacher and ex-cricketer for Australia, writes devastating, joyful songs that are quite unlike anything else you’ve heard. She elevates listeners to rare levels of vulnerability and insight, with all the openness of Laura Marling, the energy of Dolly Parton, and the devastation of Tracy Chapman.

She has a simple ethos when it comes to writing a song: it must have a pulse, it must feel nice to sing, and it must bear a truthfulness about the human experience. Her debut album Circle Walking was recorded in a living room in Heidelberg in Naarm/Melbourne’s northeast with co-producer Tim Harvey (Aldous Harding, Jade Imagine, Lisa Mitchell), featuring Jess Ellwood on guitar and backing vocals from Angie McMahon, Ruby Gill and Olivia Hally (Oh Pep!)

Annie-Rose Maloney has already supported the likes of Andy Shauf, Angel Olsen, Hurray for the Riff Raff and Angie McMahon despite only having released three singles, and to celebrate the release of Circle Walking, she will be bringing the album to life with two launch shows.
