The Victorian Music Development Office (VMDO) will be helping industry insiders gain a deeper understanding of the state of the music world this month, with the launch of the inaugural Music Data And Insights Summit.

Set to take place at Collingwood Yards in Naarm/Melbourne across April 28th and 29th, the two-day affair will feature keynotes, panels and presentations covering a range of topics including live music venue data, workplace skills trends, music consumer insights and analysis of the streaming economy.

VMDO General Manager Kirsty Rivers said in a statement that the Australian music industry is a cultural and economic powerhouse, and one that needs to be understood greater in terms of how it generates jobs, drives tourism, enriches communities and shares stories across the country.

“It is important that we understand the latest music industry research, trends and insights so that policies, regulation and investment that affect the sector remain current and relevant,” explained Rivers.

“The VMDO is pleased to present our new summit and know it will be a thought-provoking and illuminating catalyst for new ideas to inspire and inform music professionals, academics, governments and others,” said Rivers.

MC’d by award-winning music journalist and broadcaster Sosefina Fuamoli, the event is packed full of information from local and international industry representatives. This includes Victorian Music Industry Advisory Council member, Neil Morris, who will start the summit by delivering a keynote presentation on the value of insights from a cultural and First Nations perspective; and UK-based music strategist Chris Carey, who will discuss global music trends and unpack the 2024 UK Live Report with Bolster Group’s Paige X Cho.

Elsewhere, the summit includes appearances from representatives at some of Australia's premier organisations, including Support Act, CrewCare, APRA AMCOS, and more, while representatives from the world of broadcasting, event management, promotion, education, and even the legal side of things will be on hand as part of their own respective panels and discussions.

The summit will also be wrapped up by Music Australia, who will launch the first of three Listening In reports: Insights on live music attendance. The report will be discussed by a panel of industry experts, including Michael Christidis (Untitled Group), Nathan Farrell (CLBR), Doctor Christen Cornell (Creative Australia) and Claire Qian (The Push).
