Baker Boy Drops New Single ‘KING’

Dropping his first music since 2022, Baker Boy has officially ascended - from the “Fresh Prince of Arnhem Land” to his new single, KING.

The new track is essentially a victory lap for the Yolngu rapper, following on from his meteoric rise to fame.

“I wrote KING back in early 2023 with Jerome and Jacob Farah. It was a moment of me having a bit of a brag really. Not in an arrogant way, but just celebrating my wins and how far I’ve come,” Baker Boy said in a press release. 

“After Gela and post-touring I finally found some time to really look back and be like, ‘Damn I did good’, but then also had the space to make music without pressure. KING is just a celebration of that. It’s just about me being me, repping my mob back home, bragging ‘bout my five pyramids (5 ARIA wins) and getting to celebrate it with my crew. It's not that deep."

The single also marks the first time that Baker Boy has incorporated Burarra, the language his mother speaks, into his lyrics, alongside Yolngu and English. The sassy lyrics accompany a mix of G-funk synth whirls, boom-bap percussion, and bright string stabs, to create a feel-good, self-love anthem - produced by Jerome & Jacob Farah, Pip Norman and Rob Amoruso.

KING has dropped just in time for Baker Boy’s appearance at QLD Music Trails’ Dream Aloud in Cairns. He’ll be playing alongside fellow First Nations artists, King Stingray, Bumpy, JK-47, Kee'ahn, and R.3.B on October 5.

Baker Boy will then perform at the third edition of ALWAYS LIVE, a 17-day initiative celebrating contemporary music across Victoria. He’ll be headlining BLAKTIVISM with an all-star First Nations bill behind him, including Uncle Bart Willoughby, Tasman Keith, Yirrmal Yung Warriors and more, at Arts Centre Melbourne on November 22.
