Aussie rock legends Boom Crash Opera have huge news today: they’ve just released their first new single in 28 years, while the song Latest Hustle marks their first release in 12 years.
Latest Hustle arrives as the band celebrate their 40th anniversary, and immediately takes fans to the old days of Boom Crash Opera.
With an addictive guitar riff played by Pete Farnan, Peter “Maz” Maslen showcasing playful drumming, John Favaro with a throbbing bass line, and frontman Dale Ryder declaring, “My head is spinning/ I’ve been reborn,” fans will find the new number irresistible.
Latest Hustle is already the kind of song that stands up with Boom Crash Opera’s impressive discography, finding its place along with hits like Dancing In The Storm, The Best Thing, Great Wall, Hands Up In The Air, City Flat, Get Out Of The House, and Onion Skin.
Teasing the new single, Farnan said: “It’s like Onion Skin but with a contemporary twist.”

In addition to releasing new music, Boom Crash Opera have been keeping busy touring. This month, they’ll open for Swedish pop rockers Roxette across the country, and continue a co-headline tour with fellow Aussies Models. You can find tickets to the shows via the Boom Crash Opera website.
In December 2023, Boom Crash Opera were The Music cover stars. “There is only one way to play our music, and that is on 11,” Maz told The Music.
He added, “Over the years, we’ve learnt that we have to play the music in a certain way. We have tried pulling it back here and there, but that doesn’t work. We play it as hard as we can, full tilt.”
