'It was very empowering but mostly overwhelming.'
Fierce four-piece RACKETT have been making noise all over the place in 2018, now releasing their fifth single Alive.
The band have also delivered a cinematic video to go with the song and today we take a look at all the behind-the-scenes craziness that went into making the frenetic clip. Check it out below.

Everyone loves a coloured suit? Everyone loves a synchronised side to side body roll, right? Well, we do. This is us, just having fun and acting like we were at the blue light disco listening to Salt n Pepper. This was at the end of the first night of the shoot, this is how we celebrate, we dance, really badly.
Enter the scientist's lab. Here we have our very patient cinematography, Justin, taking directions from the er, director, who also happens to be our singer and guitarist Bec, pretending to be, Bec. This is the close-up when the 'subject' aka RACKETT, awake from their coma and start to make their escape.
As part of the RACKETT rock-bots sequence, we revisited some of our most memorable looks; the coloured suits. Here, Astrid is emulating her hero power, keeping time, in her hero lime suit. We shot this using a projector as the backdrop.
Here is us escaping from the scientist's lab in our nude suits. Ironically, we had to escape that room during the filming of this scene before we even got shooting, as we set off the fire alarms in the building whilst using a vapour smoke machine and had to evacuate and wait for the fire brigade to come and reset the fire alarms. This turned out to be one of the best-looking shots as we shot this in slow motion.
This instrument is an electronic harp which Bec salvaged from her grandfather's estate when he passed. This didn't end up in the final edit but it may make an appearance at a future show.
This is Bec going over the storyboard with our cinematographer in the medical bed. Bec designed a hand-drawn storyboard of the shots in order of shooting and Justin helped to create these. Having never directed our own proper video clip with big proper big boy cameras and a crew, it was very empowering but mostly overwhelming, that's probably why Bec is lying down.
Here is Bec with her bleached blonde hair at the mercy of the mad scientist just as he's injecting her with fluorescent green chloroform to knock her out and perform her make-over. The significance of this transformation is that it visually translates the lyrics of the song. Alive is about reincarnation. Here we are demonstrating the aesthetic reincarnation of the RACKETT characters, specifically Bec, as they are transformed physically and mentally from naughty church girls to outrageous rock-bots.
We won't reveal his true identity, but what we can say is he's as crazy as his onscreen alias. Here he is preparing the medical tape to be used on his victims, RACKETT, to sedate them and infiltrate their minds.
We shot this scene in a medical training room which we cannot reveal the location of due to them allowing us to use the premises for 'non-education purposes'. The room was filled with life-size models of all types of people, weird people. Elderly men with breasts and young women with penises. We didn't have to style the room too much, it was already creepy.
This is Bec and camera operator Tony, going over the footage for the RACKETT rock-bots sequence, making sure we'd gotten the shots and they were framed correctly. This is also a evidence that we hope will be lost in the internet one day of the worst impression of gwen stefani's famous 90's hairstyle ever.
Here is Ally in cyber space showing off her hero moves; jazz jumps. We got the inspiration for this backdrop from an arcade game, we felt it complimented the plastic and chromatic.
RACKETT are currently coming to the pointy end of their massive 19-date Alive regional tour, with shows in Wollongong, Newcastle, Paddington and Sydney still to come. Tickets are on sale now; for more information, head to theGuide.
