This year’s Hello Sunshine festival, a family-friendly event that was set to return to Melbourne and debut on the Gold Coast, has been cancelled.
Set to be headlined by Stone Temple Pilots, the line-up also featured Smash Mouth, Wolfmother, Kasey Chambers, Rogue Traders, and Drapht. The festival had also locked in a Bluey live show and meet-and-greet, Lenny Pearce and Whistle & Trick.
Dates and venues were confirmed, too, with the festival scheduled to take over Melbourne’s Caribbean Gardens on Saturday, 1 March, and the Gold Coast’s Broadwater Parklands on Saturday, 8 March.
A notice on the Hello Sunshine website reads:
Hello Sunshine Festival 2025 will no longer be proceeding as scheduled on March 1st (Melbourne), and March 8th (Gold Coast).
All ticket holders will be contacted directly with further details regarding refunds.
Please direct any unanswered queries to info@hellosunshinefest.com.au and a team member will reply as soon as practicable.
We thank you for your understanding throughout this tough time.
In a video posted to TikTok captioned with "super horrible news", the festival’s co-founder—who goes by Danny Rants—stated that this year’s event “simply didn’t sell enough tickets” after thanking those who did and assuring them they’ll receive refunds ASAP.

Revealing that the Hello Sunshine team saw 20% growth after its second event in Melbourne last year, Danny said they were confident about introducing a new event in another market.
While initial ticket sales looked good, they moved slower towards the end of 2024 and struggled to recover.
Explaining why only the Gold Coast leg, which struggled more in ticket sales, wasn’t cancelled and the Melbourne event went ahead, Danny cited rising costs that would have impacted the Melbourne date, making the event unsustainable.
“Cancelling it, we’re losing hundreds of thousands of dollars, but it’s better than what it could have been,” Danny continued. In the video, he said the situation was “fucked” and the future of Hello Sunshine is uncertain.
Stone Temple Pilots have added shows at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre (Mar 2) and Gold Coast’s HOTA (Mar 8) to their Australian tour.
