Boutique label Impressed Recordings are celebrating Record Store Day in style, revamping its Woolloomooloo location to celebrate the world’s most timeless audio medium from 8 AM to 5 PM this Saturday April 12th.
The first ideas behind Record Store Day came in 2007 out of a means to celebrate and uplift independent record stores. After a gathering of independent record store owners and employees saw the innate need to spread the word about the unique culture and community behind independently-owned record stores both in the US and internationally, Record Store Day became an official biannual day on April 12th, 2008.
Since, Record Store Day celebrations have become a beloved rite of passage for any and all vinyl heads. While the COVID-19 pandemic put celebrations on hold worldwide, the day slightly shifted to fit the gravity of the situation at hand, focusing on celebrating the comfort and joy that comes with bringing customers back to the root of the day: purchasing and listening to vinyl records. As such, the day has been synonymous with togetherness and community, becoming a staple for music lovers worldwide.
“Impressed Recordings is proud to be part of Australia’s thriving independent record store scene,” the team wrote in a press release.
“Whether you're a vinyl enthusiast or just discovering the magic of records, this is your chance to celebrate the music, the artists and the store that brings it all together.”

For this year’s edition of RSD, Impressed Recordings are ready to take it up a notch. They are releasing a new collaboration with Australia’s leading concert merchandise provider Merch Jungle, which’ll feature limited edition merch, much sought after vinyls from Weyes Blood, Wednesday, MJ Lenderman, Hiatus Kiayote and more, and several other RSD exclusives. Impressed will also be holding an in-store sale with special discounts on all Impressed vinyl drops for one day only; 7-inch records for $10, EPs for $20, LPs for $30, doubles for $40, triples for $50, and if you spend more than $100, you will go in the running to win a test pressing of your choice from Impressed’s entire catalogue. The winner will be drawn in-store at 4 PM on the day.
Impressed Recording’s Vinyl Club members will also receive some special incentives, including exclusive access to their latest merch, and a free 7-inch record of their choice for anyone who signs up to join on the day.
Of course, this is only the tip of the iceberg for how Impressed Recordings are celebrating RSD. Top-tier Aussie talent will be joining in on the festivities, with independent alternative-indie artist Maddy Jane slated to perform alongside the dynamic three-piece indie rock outfit Loose Content. Both acts are soundtracking RSD for a special acoustic set in-store, with Heaps Normal providing the bevvies all day long.
Impressed Recordings’ Record Store Day celebrations kicks off this Saturday April 12th from 8 AM to 5 PM at 93 Bourke Street, Woolloomooloo Sydney. Pencil this date in, get your cash ready, and get ready to honour Record Store Day in all of its glory.
