More Kamasi Washington More Kamasi Washington

US jazz legend Kamasi Washington has been confirmed to return to the iconic Sydney Opera House later this year for an Australian exclusive headline performance.

The Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer will give a memorable performance in the venue’s renewed Concert Hall, following sold-out Opera House appearances in 2018 and 2019.

The revamped Concert Hall will open in mid-2022 following two years of extensive upgrades ahead of Washington’s December 4 show.

“The mighty Kamasi Washington blew the roof off the Sydney Opera House on both previous sold-out visits, so after a long absence, we could not be more proud to welcome him into our newly refurbished Concert Hall to put it through its sonic paces with his electrifying take on jazz in 2022,” Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music Ben Marshall said.

“Kamasi Washington makes his indelible mark in the Opera House Concert Hall this summer – don’t miss the modern master in the room he was always meant to play.”

Washington returns following the release of critical acclaim single The Garden Path, which premiered on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in February.

Since his last visit to Australia, he also scored Becoming, Netflix's documentary profiling former First Lady Michelle Obama, which saw him nominated for Grammy and Emmy Awards.

Washington will support three-piece Texan band Khruangbin in Melbourne in December alongside his exclusive headline show at the Opera House.
