Kim Salmon’s band, Smoked Salmon, is finally releasing some music and will celebrate their debut single with a launch show later this month.

Salmon is an Australian music legend known for his work in bands including The Scientists, The Surrealists, and The Beasts Of Bourbon. He has been described as the “Godfather of Grunge,” influencing the likes of Nirvana, Mudhoney, The White Stripes, Sonic Youth, and many more.

After forming Smoked Salmon in early 2020 for a benefit for firefighters, the band have since played shows in Australia, Europe, and Japan. At the time of writing, the band – with a rotating epic cast of band members – are working on a soon-to-be-released album of brand-new songs, with Salmon taking a crew into the studio to record.

The result? A debut single entitled How Did They Ever Manage, set to be released on 7” vinyl and digitally with the B-side, Slider St. The vinyl release will drop on Friday, 23 August, via Cheersquad. For vinyl lovers, you’ll want to get your hands on the limited edition pink salmon 7” vinyl – limited to 100 copies – or black 7” vinyl.

Smoked Salmon will launch the release at PERSA in Fitzroy on Friday, 30 August, with special guests Money For Rope and Hearts And Rockets.

For How Did They Ever Manage, Salmon recruited bandmates Jeff Hooker, Claire Birchall, and Douglas Galbraith. On Slider St, he collaborated with Todd Pickett and Jozef Grech.
