Meek Mill is facing major backlash after throwing his support behind controversial rapper Tory Lanez during his performance at Rolling Loud Portugal.

While headlining the Algarve festival on Friday night (July 7), Meek made no secret of his support for the controversial artist, shouting out“free Tory Lanez” after performing their 2016 DC4 collaboration, Litty.

“That was fucking lit,” Meek told the crowd following the song. “Free Tory Lanez too, one time.”

ICYMI: Tory Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) was accused of shooting Megan Thee Stallion’s feet multiple times following an argument after a pool party at Kylie Jenner’s mansion back in August 2020.

Lanez was later found guilty of assault with a semiautomatic firearm; discharging a firearm with gross negligence, and carrying a loaded unregistered firearm in a vehicle; along with allegations that he personally used a firearm and inflicted great bodily injury.

He has remained behind bars without bond since December following a high-profile two-week trial in Los Angeles. He’s facing a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in prison, as well as deportation to his native Canada.

Of course, given Lanez’s checkered past, many took to social media to slam Meek Mill’s public act of support, with one writing on Twitter, “Meek Mill is always on the wrong side of history. Even if you feel in your heart of hearts Tory should be free you just keep it to yourself.”

Another added, “One loser supporting another loser. Next case!”

In an interview for the July 2022 cover issue of Rolling Stone, Megan stated that at the conclusion of the trial, "I want him to go to jail. I want him to go under the jail."

"I think it’s so crazy that people are able to get online or publish anything that is not a 100 per cent fact," Megan told the outlet. "That really is messing with my life. How are you able to do it and get away with it?"
