Natalie Bassingthwaighte is set to host an exclusive performance at the Mardi Gras Debutante Ball, a new event for First Timers in the LGBTQIA+ community held by Johnnie Walker. In addition to performing a string of hits from throughout her career, Bassingthwaighte is a guest of honour at the new Mardi Gras occasion.

The Mardi Gras Debutante Ball by Johnnie Walker will be held at the Darlinghurst space, Kinselas, on Thursday, 22 February 2024, in which the art-deco venue will be transformed into a majestic site packed with pomp and a completely inclusive vibe.

People in the LGBTQIA+ community who have wanted to, but never able to, attend Mardi Gras are the community members who will get the chance to win a free ticket to participate in the Mardi Gras Debutante Ball by Johnnie Walker.

Those members will also have their grand inaugural moment at the 2024 Sydney Mardi Gras. To have their moment, all that’s required is to share a personal story about why they want to attend the event and what’s prevented previous attendance. You can enter for your chance to participate in the Debutante Ball here.

Bassingthwaighte’s appearance is particularly notable since it’s her first Mardi Gras as a newcomer to the LGBTQIA+ community.

In November, the Voodoo Child singer revealed that she was in a “beautiful” new relationship with a woman who “makes my heart smile and makes me happy” after the end of her 12-year marriage with her ex-husband, longtime Rogue Traders drummer Cameron McGlinchey.

She’s since shared photos alongside her partner, Pip Loth, including images of the pair before her performance opening for Christina Aguilera at the US singer’s one-off concert at Flemington Racecourse.

In a statement, Bassingthwaighte said about her partnership with Johnnie Walker and her exclusive Mardi Gras performance,

I’m proud to be working with a brand like Johnnie Walker who has continued to champion the progress of the LGBTQIA+ community, from trailblazers to newcomers such as myself.

“Being able to attend my first Mardi Gras as a new member of the queer community, surrounded with so much love, joy and acceptance, is so special to me, and what’s even more special is knowing that I get to share this memorable experience with other First Timers of diverse queer identities.

Melissa Barry, Johnnie Walker's Marketing Manager, added, “Johnnie Walker is a brand that has long stood for progress through our Keep Walking philosophy. As a proud sponsor of the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras, we’re excited to return to the fabulous Kinselas for another year to host our first-ever Mardi Gras Debutante Ball alongside those brave enough to be taking their first steps.”

Barry added, “We’re honoured to be able to give our Debutantes a memorable experience with a performance from the incredible Natalie Bassingthwaighte and are excited to host the winners of this incredible competition.”

The winner of the Debutante Ball will be announced next month, with entries closing on 26 January 2024. You can read through the terms and conditions here.
