Noel Gallagher has described Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance as “absolute nonsense” while calling out the spectacle of entertainment at American sporting events.

Delivering one of the most memorable Super Bowl Halftime Show performances in recent memory, Lamar’s set was introduced by actor Samuel L. Jackson (who played Uncle Sam). It included hits such as HUMBLE and DNA, as well as his Drake diss tracks Euphoria and Not Like Us.

The performance also included special guests, with SZA joining Lamar for All The Stars and Luther and tennis legend Serena Williams making a cameo.

According to NME, Lamar’s performance has already become the most-watched Super Bowl Halftime Show of all time, amassing 133.5 viewers for the 15-minute performance.

Gallagher discussed the performance in a new interview with TalkSPORT. The Oasis star told hosts Andy Goldstein and Darren Bent about his views towards the show, “I had to switch it off. It was absolute nonsense.”

Elaborating on what exactly he disliked about the performance, Gallagher continued, “I didn’t watch it all; I just switched it off. There was, like, 300 people getting out of a car in the first two minutes.

“But no, I don’t like the Halftime nonsense; it’s usually artists I don’t like.”

When asked about his favourite Super Bowl Halftime Shows, Gallagher said he never watches the performances. “I never watch it; I’m not interested,” he said.

His real concern, however, is the proliferation of the spectacle of live entertainment in American sports influencing the Premier League. “Americans are taking over our sport; they’re taking over the Premier League; they’ll take over the Champions League,” he said. “Trust me, 20 years from now, it will all be nonsense.”

Noel and his brother Liam will return to Australia this October and November. They will bring their highly anticipated Oasis reunion tour to Melbourne and Sydney. Limited tickets to the shows are available through Ticketmaster.
