Beating the boss.

More Passenger More Passenger

It was always going to be a tight finish but UK artist Passenger has snuck in and taken out #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week, toppling rock legend Bruce Springsteen and securing his first ever top-charting record in Austral.

The fan-favourite singer's seventh LP, Young As The Morning, Old As The Sea, has beaten Springsteen's Chapter And Verse (the audio companion to new autobiography Born To Run) which debuted at #2.

The placings will no doubt give both artists a nice little boost before they hit Australia in 2017 for their own headline tours.

Another artist set to perform on our shores soon too is young Canadian songwriter Shawn Mendes who has taken out third spot on the chart with his second album, Illuminate, while the top five is rounded out by the Suicide Squad soundtrack and Barbra Streisand's Encore: Movie Partners Sing Broadway.

Burgeoning act and BIGSOUND 2016 act Tash Sultana has also made a huge splash in the chart, with her debut offering Notion coming in at #11, while the Australian cast recording for Dream Lover - The Bobby Darin Musical placed at #9.

Rounding out this week's debuts, Warrnambool hard-rock legends Airbourne's fourth LP, Breakin' Outta Hell, has debuted nicely at #13 and US metalcore outfit Every Time I Die's Low Teens has come in at #25.

Over on the Singles chart, US DJ duo The Chainsmokers' huge hit Closer featuring Halsey has taken out #1 for the eighth straight week, drawing level with Danish pop band Lukas Graham's 7 Years for the most weeks at top spot in 2016.

The top five remains unchanged from last week, apart from 2012 The X Factor UK winner James Arthur who has burst up the chart to #3 with Say You Won't Let Go, after it debuted at #25 just last week.

Elsewhere, the title track and first single from The Weeknd's hugely anticipated third LP Starboy has debuted at #9.
