Scott Morrison & Onion-Eating Tony Abbott Aren't Safe From Scathing DOWNGIRL Single

Nobody is safe from DOWNGIRL’s ire – not Scott Morrison or an onion-eating Tony Abbott.

In the music video for their scathing new number, 2006, the band – Skarlett Saramore, Lou Harbidge, Kristen Adams and Alex Neville offer a satirical take on the “dickheads” who have previously run the country.

Full of punchy bass lines and roaring in-your-face guitars, 2006 is true Australian punk. Armed with a message that showcases the country’s past leaders' poor treatment of Indigenous people and ripping past Prime Ministers a new one, DOWNGIRL don’t hold back.

Poking fun at Scott Morrison’s little trip to Hawaii while Australia was burning, the members of DOWNGIRL dress as politicians in a rambunctious music video, drinking until they’re blind drunk, tripping over each other, pants down and covered in vomit. Check out the video below.

“’Where the bloody hell are you?’ was a Tourism Australia slogan used in 2006. We are exploiting the use of this slogan to reinforce the importance of recognising what land we still stand on,” Saramore revealed in a statement.

“2006 takes aim at the politicians and people benefiting off the colonisation of Australia, including the injustices committed by the system that continues to negatively affect the lives of our Indigenous and First Nations people.

“It is a parody of greatest proportions, a farcical comedy,” Saramore continued, “injecting humour into the seriousness of the subject matter, which is not only representative of the “Australian larrikin” character but a mirror being held up for all.”

Born out of the ashes of punk outfit BOYSCLUB, DOWNGIRL formed online during the 2021 lockdown and have quickly gained plenty of momentum.

Within the space of a year, they supported FANGZ and Battlesnake, cut their teeth on lineups for Doomed Friday, Bonez Queer Party, Winter Magic Revival Festival headlined by Hermitude, Haiku Hands and Urthboy, and tore it up at Chopped Festival with Amyl And The Sniffers.
