Last week, Spiritbox revealed that the trio had expanded into a four-piece, welcoming the addition of former As I Lay Dying bassist Josh Gilbert.
Just days before that announcement, users on Reddit pointed out that the band had a new single coming soon, and now, it’s official: after playing it live at recent shows, the new single, The Void, is out now.
The melodic new number is anchored by Courtney LaPlante’s smooth clean vocals in the verses and chorus, harmonic guitar work, and multi-layered soundscapes.
LaPlante said about the new single, "The Void is a song that came about very quickly. I didn’t have to fight with anything to write it, and when that happens, I don’t argue with it.
“It’s a type of song that I’ve been wanting to write for a long time, I’ve heard it hundreds of times now, and it makes me so happy every time I hear it. It’s been such an amazing experience playing this song on our tour and watching people hear it for the first time in real-time." Check out The Void below.
LaPlante discussed releasing new music in a recent interview with Revolver. She admitted, “We love to sabotage ourselves. So we're like, 'Hey, let's throw in writing new music, too' — and hopefully, we'll get some new music out in the first half of the year. After that, we're gonna hibernate and hopefully write an album. That's the goal. Crazy first half of the year, pretty chill second half.”
The Holy Roller vocalist continued, "Now we have to figure out when do we show you the songs? Do we show you in March? Do we show you in September? Or do we wait until 2024? I don't know. We wrote this music because we really wanna share it with you. It made us feel a certain way and we wanna see if it makes you feel a certain way, too."
She added later in the interview, "If everything aligns and we feel really strongly that everything hits exactly how we want — the art and the music and the whole thing around it — we'll want to put this out as soon as possible."
