You might be surprised by what you hear when you press play on the remixed versions of Something Good, the new song by The Superjesus.

On Something Good, the Adelaide rockers teamed up with Sydney electropop musician Paul Mac and Melbourne electronic outfit The Journey to release two versions of the song unlike anything else in The Superjesus’ catalogue.

Of course, Sarah McLeod has the kind of voice that would suit any genre of music, so hearing her on a dance track isn’t all that surprising. It’s not her first time experimenting with the genre, either: she appeared on the song Never Been Before on Paul Mac’s 2005 album, Panic Room, and had an ARIA Club Chart #1 single with He Doesn’t Love You.

But it’s always surprising to hear a rock band switch things up. This week, Something Good (Paul Mac remix) sits at #27 on the ARIA Club Chart.

The original track was released in September and has been reworked ahead of the release of The Superjesus’s first album in 20 years. The self-titled album will be released next Friday (21 March).

McLeod said of the original version of the song, “Something Good was a song I had a while back that I was harvesting for my solo album, I played it to Ruddy and he saw TSJ potential …so yet again it got swiped for a higher purpose.

“Ruddy took it to his studio and did a number on it, then it was unleashed on the band. It came up a treat! It’s super fun to play live as well ‘cause finally I have a song where I don’t have to play guitar. I thought lyrically it felt good for where we are at too.”

Bassist Stu Rudd added: “It is such a great song, initially upon hearing the track, I couldn’t get it out of my head, and it was one of the demos we kept coming back to, and felt it had to be released, once again happily pushing our own boundaries.”

The Superjesus will tour across Australia this June. You can find tickets on the band’s website.
