Triffids House Sells For Over $3 Million

The controversial Perth homestead that once was home to Dave McComb, the late lead singer of iconic rock band The Triffids, and his brother and bandmate Robert has sold for over $3 million at auction.

As reported by The West Australian, the house – located in Peppermint Grove and named The Cliffe – has been sold to an unnamed family who plan to renovate it and turn it into their family home.

Dating back to 1895, the house was once home to Harold McComb and Athel Hockey, and two of their sons, David and Robert, would regularly practise with their band, The Triffids, at the house.

Estate agent Chris Shellabear told The Australian, “It's a win for all those people that have a shared experience with the property, whether it's people who are friends of the McComb family or followers of the Triffids or whatever your involvement in this property is.”

The house came under threat of demolition in 2008 when the state members of parliament voted to remove the house from the heritage list, with Premier Colin Barrett implicated in allegations that he sought to destroy the house for the benefit of his son. He was cleared the following year.
