There's a tonne of new music released every Friday and wading through it to find your next favourite album is an almost impossible task. 'The Music' team get it and we're here to help, bringing you our Album Of The Week each Friday. Here's why Washington's 'Batflowers' is this week's pick.
Today's been a long time coming for Washington fans.
It's been six years since Washington's There There and for Batflowers, it was all about "it was an exercise in believing one’s own hype, getting to the raw guts of why anyone makes music at all".
Here, Washington takes total creative control, working across art direction, photography, hand-assembled animation, A&R and more, and choosing a stellar team to help deliver it - John Congleton (Angel Olsen, St Vincent, Moses Sumney), Japanese Wallpaper (Mallrat, Allday), and Dave Hammer (Jess Kent, Mia Rodriguez, Genesis Owusu), while Sam Dixon (Sia, Adele, Meg) and Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones and I, The Jungle Giants).
It pays off too with one of her most impressive works to date.
