Just a week after fellow Aussies PolarisThe Remedy soundtracked a new Fox NRL advertisement, Parkway Drive have put a metal spin on the Fox Footy theme music.

While there isn’t much for vocalist Winston McCall to do on the instrumental theme, lead guitarist Jeff Ling tears it up as drummer Ben Gordon commands on the drum kit. In a video, the band perform on the ground of Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium as sparks go off behind them, making for a spectacular show.

The Byron Bay heavy metal outfit brings a fresh, new, heavy energy to the theme music that many AFL watchers will hear multiple times a week now that this year’s season has begun.

McCall said of the collaboration with Fox Footy, “When you start out as a really tiny band from Byron, you definitely don’t expect to be standing in Marvel Stadium, given the opportunity to do something like this.

“To be able to have a tune that is as iconic as the Fox Footy theme tune and weave what we do through that, we can 100% see how it works to be able to heighten the entire atmosphere. Music lifts everything up to a whole other level, from something that is already exciting to something that’s truly epic.”

Since the video aired this week, Parkway Drive fans have been calling for something that should have happened already: Parkway Drive to perform a ripping pre-game headline set at this year’s AFL Grand Final. Unfortunately, the band will be touring in Germany on the weekend of September this year, but hopefully, they can be locked in for next year.

Parkway Drive’s Fox Footy spot arrived the same week the band sold out tickets to their highly anticipated, curious show at the Sydney Opera House.

This June, the band will team up with a symphony orchestra and deliver an unforgettable show in a black-tie event. The show will also be recorded for a feature film and live album called HOME.

After tickets sold out yesterday (7 March), the band commented, “Thank you for the amazing response and selling out our historic Sydney Opera House show! We’re beyond excited to see you on June 9th in your finest black tie attire.

“For those who couldn’t snag tickets, don’t worry, we’ll be bringing this special night to you in the future as part of our upcoming movie and live album, HOME.”
