After leaving Mojo’s and stepping back into the real world, I couldn’t think of a better ending to such a sweet weekend for the Perth music scene.

I honestly have no time for people who say that Perth sucks. Not when you can step from the warmth of the Sunday afternoon sunlight into a place like Mojo's and just leave your perceptions of reality at the door. It's like another world in there, where the bands create this alternate universe to dive into together. After a busy weekend of supporting and rocking out WAM festival, Fremantle-based Red Engines Caves were here to start this psychedelic party. Those of us who were here early lined the edges of the room and tuned in to this local gem filling this space with their rocky bluesy tunes, including Black Mary. These guys have a lot going for them at the moment, with a bunch of Perth gigs lined up and here's hoping the release of more recorded tracks.

Mt Mountain, another Perth band making waves with their soft echoey sounds, took us on a journey. They give me vibes of surf video backing tracks and summer afternoons on the beach with beers and mates. I spent their set grasping my gin and juice while intermittently closing my eyes and absorbing every sound they were orchestrating. I'm so excited for the future of this band.

You can't hang at Mojo's without slipping out between sets for some Flipside goodness, Kenny Burger yes please. Getting back just in time for Doctopus, the room was filling with long blonde-haired surfer-looking lads and some indie babes, always providing new hairstyle concepts. These guys have this wild raw energy and took the room into an up-tempo party place, ready for the headliners. Their latest release is online, an album called Buddies, containing some real bangers.

We had been prepped, and our bodies and minds were ready for King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard. This set was like a party on and off the stage; it was near impossible to remain stationary. Hearing Head On/Pill live was nothing short of epic, and with the skills of their five guitarists and two drummers packed onto that Mojo's stage how could it not be? Tonight brought the final part of their tour on the back of the new album, Float Along - Fill Your Lungs, 'Gizz' managing to translate this live energy into their recordings. After leaving Mojo's and stepping back into the real world, I couldn't think of a better ending to such a sweet weekend for the Perth music scene.
