Your early Friday mornings are about to get a whole lot rowdier, with PBS radio announcing the launch of its new fortnightly hardcore punk show.
Dubbed No Barriers, the four-hour program will broadcast every fortnight from 2am – 6am on Friday morning, with host Robyn Challands on hand to play the very best in hardcore punk from across Australia and around the world.
“Every fortnight, tune in for four hours of the latest releases, genre-defining albums and deep cuts, spanning beatdown, youth crew, melodic hardcore, crossover thrash, and everything in between, and diving deep into hardcore’s ever evolving sound,” the program’s description says.
“You’ll also hear interviews with people shaping the scene locally and abroad, and stay on top of where you can check out your favourite hardcore bands at upcoming shows across Melbourne and Australia.”

The first episode of No Barriers airs at 2am on Friday, November 29th, though there’s currently no word as to what will be getting the blood pumping as it kicks off.
No Barriers will also be in fine company on PBS, which already includes a solid roster of programs catering to fans of heavy tunes. Programs such as Burning Bitumen, Fang It!, Sunglasses After Dark, Through The Collapse, TNT, Tyrannecoreus, Bleeding Black Hearts Revue, and Pojama People all ensure a little bit of menace is present on the 106.7FM frequency.
News of the launch of No Barriers comes barely a fortnight after the announcement that triple j’s long-running heavy music show The Racket would be coming to an end, while their punk and hardcore show short.fast.loud revealed a move to Double J.
This news undoubtedly left fans of punk, hardcore, and metal worried about a lack of representationfor their genres of choice on the airwaves going forward. However, The Racket’s outgoing host Lochlan Watt did note applications were open for the host of a new heavy show which would be taking its place in 2025.
