Sound States, presented by 360 Artist Logistics, has announced that applications are open for this year’s music management program.
The WA-based program is designed for early-career artist managers and self-managed artists, providing them with knowledge, skills and networks which are vital in taking control of their careers.
Over three days, on Wednesday, July 30th, Thursday, July 31st, and Friday, August 1st, at the State Library of Western Australia, Sound States will equip participants with a hands-on approach to navigating the music industry independently without the trouble of traditional gatekeepers.
Returning for its fifth year, the inspiring line-up features mentors who have defined their own journey to success, building their audience and careers from the ground up.
Across these three days, 15 successful applicants will participate in panel discussions and networking opportunities to gain practical insight from independent managers, self-managed artists, publicists, booking agents, tax specialists, radio producers, and more.
Successful applicants are offered this opportunity at no cost, with three positions reserved for regionally based participants. You can apply for this year’s program here before applications close on March 29th.

“My biggest takeaway from Sound States was the feeling that there is a place for everybody in the music business,” Donna Albertini, manager of Yomi Ship, said. “Being part of Sound States instilled a renewed confidence that I was on the right track and that we are all in the same boat, dealing with the same challenges.”
Joan & The Giants’ Grace Newtown-Wordsworth added, “Learning the reality of the industry, and actually understanding the work that goes into creating a successful career - it’s not just plain luck. Looking from the outside, a lot of people do not understand what is behind an artist or a band, and it’s just huge.
“I think it was a good wake-up call, and definitely helped me in goal setting and planning ahead. Since doing the course, I have personally gone for a grant which was successful, I released a debut EP, directed music videos, I’ve got my accounting sorted, I’ve booked and embarked on national, WA tours and festivals and more.
“I was incredibly inspired around creating an artistic social media presence and looking at music and branding more visually. The whole Sound States experience was inspiring as both a manager and an artist.”
