West Coast Eagles football player Reuben Ginbey is set to appear in court later this month following charges of public urination at a music festival over the weekend.

A statement released by the club on Monday afternoon confirmed the news, adding that Ginbey had also refused to give his details to officers at the scene.

“The West Coast Eagles advise that AFL player Reuben Ginbey has been charged after urinating in public at a music event on Saturday evening and failing to comply with WA Police directions by not giving his personal details,” the statement read.

“He will appear in court later this month,” it continued. “The Club has advised the AFL and, as the matter is now before the courts, will make no further comment at this time.”

Though no confirmation was made by the West Coast Eagles, a report from WA Today claims that Ginbey had been at the Wildlands Festival at Arena Joondalup on Saturday evening when the alleged offence took place.

The Music have reached out to the Wildlands festival for comment.

20-year-old Ginbey made his debut for the West Coast Eagles following his selection by the club as a first-round draft pick the previous year. In April 2023, after playing his third game, he was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award, though that title ultimately was awarded to Harry Sheezel in August.

Well-regarded as a defender and midfielder, Ginbey closed out the 2024 season having played every game with a career record of 40 games and two goals to his name.

Despite the incident, Perth Now have reported that Ginbey’s off-season activites have not been affected thus far, and has returned to training with the club on Monday afternoon.

Currently, no court date has been announced for Ginbey, and no further statements are expected until after his appearance in court.
