Aussie underground rockers LOSER have announced they’re calling it quits and releasing their final album, New Heights, next Friday (6 December).
Sharing the sad news on Instagram last week (22 November), the band wrote that after six years, the release of three albums and two EPs, and going through five official member line-ups, the end of the band is coming, with the release of New Heights coming to streaming services soon (“There will be no physical copies!”).
The band continued, “We are super proud of these songs, and we are so stoked that everybody else gets to hear what we have been working on! We have learnt a lot during our time as a band and are so grateful for everybody who has helped us along the way and listened to our music. Love from Loser (2018-2024).”
At the time of writing, no tour dates accompanying the breakup news have been announced.
LOSER dropped the forthcoming album’s title track in June via Restless Noise Records. Describing the song as an “anthem for the disillusioned,” the band said: “It feels as though almost all current systems for living, communicating, and expressing art are fundamentally broken. This song is about expressing the desire to find another way because none of this shit we’ve inherited works anymore.”

The trio recorded and produced the song at Footscray’s Wrangler Studios, and it was mixed by the band’s vocalist, Tim Maxwell.
LOSER are known for their live shows, which are packed with raw emotion and explosive energy. They aimed to capture those elements for the ambitious EP, Stadium Dreams On A Bedroom Budget, released last year.
The group said of the EP at the time: “This whole EP is about self-discovery. It’s about ignoring the distractions and digging deeper within yourself to find out who that is, what they want, and empowering yourself to be true to that.
“The name ‘Stadium Dreams On A Bedroom Budget’ is a reflection of that. We want to be a band that plays big stadiums and big crowds, but right now, we’re recording the whole thing in our own backyard studio, touring hard as an opening band, and appreciating every moment of the journey without losing sight of our goals, or the reason we want to achieve them.”
At the end of 2022, LOSER was named a band to watch in a The Music cover story—check out our interview with them here.
