Beloved local indie punk-rock outfit Chelsea Manor have announced their decision to split as a band.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, the rockers state, “Over five years ago, we started Chelsea Manor, and after these years of making music together, we've decided it’s time to close this chapter. Words can’t capture just how life-changing this journey has been for all of us. We've had the honor of meeting so many kind and supportive people, playing on stages we once only dreamed of, and sharing every moment with people we consider family. It's been an experience we’ll cherish forever.”

Consisting of three friends, Bianca Hendy, Michael Collins, and Ivan Heenan, the band formed in Mount Gambier. They came of age amongst limestone and hit the ground running in 2019 as winners of Triple J’s One Night Stand festival support. Since then, they’ve been releasing singles that deliver a sound described by the band as “equal parts forward-thinking yet nostalgic.”

They confirm that the decision to split was “unanimous.” According to the band’s official statement, this current moment “felt like the right time to let Chelsea Manor go and make space for new adventures.”

The group has “embraced” this decision “with deep gratitude for the incredible years shared together, and hold “excitement for the future and anticipation to see what each person will accomplish in their next chapter,” in music or elsewhere.

This announcement comes with the declaration that the band are releasing one final song, Hindsight, and playing one final show to say goodbye.

Hindsight was recorded in 2022, and is described as a “favourite” of the band. The single, officially out in the world on November 21st, reportedly “captures the essence of learning from the past without getting lost in it and grasping every opportunity as it comes your way.”

Their farewell show will be taking place at the beloved Crown and Anchor on December 13th. They will be joined by punk-rock four-piece Looch and alternative rock band Newgate Crowd.

Chelsea Manor urges music lovers far and wide to join them.

“It will be the last chance to see us live,” they say. “And it would mean the world to have you there with us.”

Tickets to the last Chelsea Manor show are available now.
