Casey Donovan Stuck At Burning Man

Australian singer Casey Donovan is one of 70,000 punters stranded in the Black Rock Desert after Burning Man festival was struck with 1.3 centimetres of rain.

Because of treacherous weather conditions, cars are bogged down, and attendees are stuck on-site unless they’re willing to follow DJ Diplo’s lead and walk for eight kilometres in the mud and end up being picked up by a fan.

Posting on Instagram yesterday (3 September), Donovan shared a beautiful photo of a double rainbow “putting on a show for some smiles in not such an ideal situation”.

In the caption, she continued, “Found some WiFi...Have been rained into the Playa here at Burning Man ..Good thing is, we are safe, we have food and ‘dryish’ shelter it is very moist here and forecast is for more rain over the next few days...fingers and toes crossed for some sunshine to clear things up...But for now, ChoooookAsssssses and I'll get in touch when I find some more WiFi”.

We hope that Donovan gets out of the festival site safely.

AP News reports that the freak weather event struck on Friday (1 September). Road closures are also in place around the Black Rock Desert site, and the burning of a wooden effigy – the festival’s entire namesake – has been postponed. One festivalgoer has reportedly died, though no cause of death has been revealed.

According to the New York Times, festival officials have also urged punters to ration their supplies by conserving food and water.

“Conserve food, water, and fuel, and shelter in a warm, safe space,” organisers told attendees in a statement.

Although circumstances are bleak, “We have not witnessed any negativity, any rough times,” Burning Man festival organiser Theresa Galeani told AP News.

“Some people … were supposed to leave a few days ago, so they’re out of water or food. But I am an organiser, so I went around and found more water and food. There is more than enough here for people. We just have to get it to everyone.”

On New Year’s Eve, Donovan joined Vika and Linda Bull as they paid tribute to the one and only Archie Roach with a performance of I’m On Your Side.

She later went for covers of Robyn’s Dancing On My Own, Lizzo’s About Damn Time and a blistering performance of The Greatest Showman hit This Is Me, with The Music’s Stephen Green writing that all those performances “showed why she's one of the country's most talented vocalists.” Her single, Shake It, also raised the roof.
