Canadian alt-rock/alt-country outfit Cowboy Junkies are returning to Australia and New Zealand this November, bringing a career-spanning show that celebrates their incredible 40 years of music.
In 1985, Cowboy Junkies proved the music world was looking for something a bit different. Carving out a niche for themselves with their quiet, reflective songs on their 1988 second album, The Trinity Session, the band grew a dedicated fan base and found critical acclaim.
Set to perform tracks from their early days to their most recent album, 2023’s Such Ferocious Beauty, the band—comprising siblings Margo Timmins (vocals), Michael Timmins (guitar), and Peter Timmins (drums) as well as bassist Alan Anton and longtime multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird—these An Evening With shows are ones fans won’t want to miss.
The tour begins at Brisbane’s Fortitude Music Hall on Tuesday, 11 November, before heading to Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Thursday, 13 November, Sydney’s State Theatre on Friday, 14 November, Perth’s Astor Theatre on Tuesday, 18 November, Adelaide’s Woodville Town Hall on Thursday, 20 November, and wraps up at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre on Saturday, 23 November.
Tickets go on sale on Thursday, 1 May, at 11 am local time from the David Roy Williams website.
“The expectations and responsibilities of our roles are a big part of the band’s ethos,” Michael Timmins expressed of the band’s long existence, without line-up changes or a lengthy hiatus, in a press release.

“We’re still amazed that we’re doing things our way and continuing to grow the band, but the longer we are at it, the more fun it’s become. We don’t take it for granted.”
Margo Timmins added, “We do what we do, and it feels right for all of us. After 40-plus years of playing together, the band and its music are more important to us than ever. The music we make brings each of us a great sense of contentment, a knowledge of place, and a sense of doing what we were meant to do.”
In February 2023, Cowboy Junkies toured Australia for the first time in over 20 years.
