Canberra folk, rock and blues singer-songwriter Kim Churchill has issued a call to action to his Cairns fans, urging them to snap up tickets to his upcoming show at Tanks Arts Centre, which may otherwise face cancellation due to low ticket sales.
The artist shared a video on Facebook and Instagram yesterday (April 23) detailing the dire financial situation he’d be in between travel costs, venue hire, and ultimately being paid if the show is cancelled.
“It’s looking like it’s going to cost me $3000 to $5000 to play my own show,” he said.
“We’re at 80 or 90 [tickets], but the venue hire for Tanks Art Centre and all the little things they’re charging me for is crazy, and I don’t see a cent until we get over 170 tickets.
“That, combined with driving 2,500 kilometres, it's looking like we might have to cancel the show. If you’re planning on coming or you’ve been holding off from buying tickets, today or tomorrow is your last chance to buy them and show me we can put this show on. Otherwise, I'm so sorry, I think we're gonna have to do it another time in another way.”

Having just played the esteemed Byron Bay festival Bluesfest, Churchill wrote that this challenge is “a bit of a tough one after so many beautiful moments on this tour”.
The artist announced his regional and major cities The Lovely Tour last year, debuting his album It’s Lovely To Have You Here in a stripped-back live busking series across Australia in October. He then went on to play a successful run of shows across Europe and the UK before touching back down on home soil to kick off the Australian tour leg.
Since December 2024, Churchill has played well over half of the 73 shows announced on The Lovely Tour, and aims to keep the ball rolling under the condition that his Cairns fans can pull through and support him.
“Please support live music in the area and artists travelling a great long way to bring music,” he wrote. “I'm hoping there's a bunch of people that were just waiting to buy who might see this and jump to action.”
