Louisville, Kentucky-based hardcore band Knocked Loose didn’t just score a major win for the international heavy music scene by performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, they also brought back something we hadn’t seen in years: satanic panic (or hardcore panic).

The band performed their single, Suffocate, with electronic pop-turned-metal vocalist Poppy on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week.

Over the ensuing days, the band was subject to controversy on social media, with comments from people who didn’t understand what the band was doing while others were horrified. Vocalist Bryan Garris says, “If it scared you, good.”

Taking to Instagram days after the performance, Garris expressed gratitude for the opportunity to bring hardcore music to the mainstream and pride in his band.

Garris recalled the proud moment, “The other day Knocked Loose performed on @jimmykimmellive.

“For a long time now, our goal has been to see how far we could squeeze this band into places where we don’t fit and I think this may be the biggest one. National television. It feels like the ceiling gets higher for EVERYONE, every single day. We celebrate this together. Thank you so much.”

After describing the moment of walking backstage through the Jimmy Kimmel Live! hallway where he saw photos of the stars and Presidents who appeared on the show over the years, Garris continued, “I leaned over to @caasihale [guitarist Isaac Hale] and said, ‘This started in your garage.’ He grabbed onto me and squeezed as hard as he could. That’s a moment I’ll never forget.”

Garris concluded the post, “PS if it scared you, good.”

Knocked Loose toured Australia last March and made waves on the inaugural Knotfest Australia line-up. Currently promoting their latest album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, the band have found their greatest success yet, peaking at #14 on the ARIA Albums Chart.

The new album (and Jimmy Kimmel Live! moment) follows the band making headlines for successfully starting circle pits at Coachella last year.
