Australian synth-metal band Voyager have effectively had touring and releasing new music on pause since singer Danny Estrin was diagnosed with cancer in September 2023.

Since then, the band have kept in touch with fans, cancelling shows last year and sharing updates regarding Estrin’s treatment, as well as delightful videos on social media, despite how they might be feeling.

In January, the band returned to the stage with the Perth Symphony Orchestra, headlining this year’s Rugby 7s tournament in Perth. In June, though, Voyager will once again hit the stage for “two special events” and “one powerful comeback.”

“The past 18 months have been a roller coaster, but we are overjoyed to be able to announce that this Perthian winter we will make our exclusively local live comeback with two very special events,” the band wrote on social media last week.

Voyager will perform matinee and evening shows. The first show will take place at the Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, 21 June, with the band offering a family-friendly daytime event. The second show will take place on Friday, 4 June, at Magnet House.

“The stage is set for a triumphant and explosive return in our home city of Perth,” the band wrote.

“This is Voyager live – and a show you won’t want to miss. Join us for a night of soaring synths, thunderous riffs, and raw emotion as we celebrate survival, music, and everything that brought us here.

“We have no idea when this will happen again, so let’s gather and stare into the night – together.”

The Rosemount Hotel gig sold out in less than 24 hours.

If playing shows again wasn’t enough, Voyager have announced that they’ll release a new song, Seen Better Days, this Friday (25 April). You can check out a snippet of the lively, synth-led track below and pre-save it here.

In 2023, Voyager represented Australia at Eurovision and released their eighth album, Fearless In Love.

Reviewing their most recent Brisbane show for The Music, Carley Hall praised Voyager for living up to the extra hype brought on by the band’s appearance at Eurovision. Hall wrote:

If there were ever any suspicions about whether this band’s bark was bigger than its bite, they’re quickly quashed. Voyager has spent half its lifetime as a band with members coming and going around its mainstay Estrin; the Voyager that we see now on stage have had 10-plus years of playing together – and you can hear and see it in action.
