“It feels incredible to bring so many boundary-pushing artists to Tasmania in 2025 for the full-scale return of Dark Mofo,” said Artistic Director Chris Twite.

After going on hiatus last year, Dark Mofo, Tasmania’s adored winter festival of art, performance, live music, and more, will return this June.

The festival begins on Thursday, 5 June, and runs until Sunday, 15 June, with an additional day on Saturday, 21 June. Today, organisers announce the long-awaited program for this year’s event, which will see live music return alongside the Dark Park art hub, Night Mass parties, the Winter Feast, the cathartic Ogoh-Ogoh burning, the Nude Solstice Swim, and Dark Mofo Films.

Dark Mofo has secured 19 Australian exclusives this year, including Philadelphia rap and R&B star Tierra Whack, darkwave pioneers Cold Cave, progressive metal group Baroness, absurdist jazz and extreme metal outfit Clown Core, garage goths The Horrors, electronic duo Machine Girl, post-hardcore band Show Me The Body, and more.

Meanwhile, Beth Gibbons will open proceedings with two shows at Hobart’s Odeon Theatre. Other acts that appear at Melbourne’s RISING or Sydney’s Vivid and are heading to Tasmania include DIIV and Jessica Pratt.

Australia's representatives at Dark Mofo this year are Gut Health, Divide And Dissolve, Uboa, ŽIVA, The Peep Tempel, Keanu Nelson, Methyl Ethel, Thelma Plum, Borderlands—the project of Lisa Gerrard, Cye Wood, and William Barton—and more.

Festival subscribers can access tickets on Wednesday, 9 April, at 10 am AEST. Tickets are available to all other punters at 12 pm AEST on Wednesday, 9 April. You can find tickets and updates and explore the full program on the Dark Mofo website.

“Dark Mofo is back!” said Artistic Director Chris Twite. “Once again, we will bathe the city in red, filling it with art and taking over disused and hidden spaces all across Nipaluna/Hobart. Night Mass—the late-night labyrinth of revelry—will carve new paths through the city, and a host of Australian-exclusive artists from around the world will storm our stages.’

Twite added, “It feels incredible to bring so many boundary-pushing artists to Tasmania in 2025 for the full-scale return of Dark Mofo.”

In September 2023, organisers stated that the festival would go on hiatus for its 2024 event, citing the need for a “period of renewal” as organisers took stock of “changing conditions and rising costs.”

However, last April, the festival made a surprising comeback, with a smaller event being announced featuring Genesis Owusu and Marlon Williams.

“I know we said Dark Mofo would stay quiet, but Winter wouldn't feel the same without the chance to feast and frolic during the long Tasmanian nights,” Twite said at the time.
