"No more endless rounds of clubs, pubs, or RSLs. Maybe a rare one-off gig down the line if the stars align," Morris said.

All good things must eventually come to an end, but it’s still heartbreaking to report that Russell Morris is stepping away from his illustrious touring career.

Russell Morris is a member of the ARIA Hall of Fame and Australian Songwriters Hall Of Fame with a career spanning more than five decades. He was awarded an Order Of Australia in 2018 for “significant service to the performing arts as a musician, singer, songwriter and entertainer, and supporter of charitable organisations.”

Today, the Australian music icon has announced The Farewell Tour before he hangs up his hat and guitar. Supported by his 13-piece all-star band, Morris will embark on one last tour across the country this August and September.

The tour begins at Adelaide’s Festival Theatre on Sunday, 3 August, then heads to Newcastle’s Civic Theatre on Thursday, 7 August, Perth Convention & Entertainment Centre on Saturday, 9 August, Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on Friday, 22 August, Tweed Heads’ Twin Towns Services Club on Saturday, 23 August, Melbourne’s Hamer Hall on Wednesday, 27 August, Thirroul’s Anita’s Theatre on Saturday, 6 September, and wraps up at the prestigious Sydney Opera House on Sunday, 7 September.

Venue and ticket agency database (such as Ticketek, Ticketmaster, Oztix, and Moshtix) pre-sales will be available from 10 am local time on Tuesday, 8 April. The general sale opens at 10 am local time on Thursday, 10 April, via Russell Morris’ website.

The Real Thing singer said of his final tour:

Don't miss a beat with our FREE daily newsletter

For too many years to count, more than I care to admit, I’ve performed across every corner of Australia. From smoky clubs to rowdy pubs, sprawling festivals to RSL halls, I’ve done it all, and I’ve cherished every second of it.

Since the ‘60s, I’ve poured my heart into this circuit, but after decades of constant motion, I started to feel a creeping sense of déjà vu - maybe I was repeating myself, treading the same worn paths. That’s why my albums have danced through so many styles—folk, rock, blues, you name it. I’m not built for the repetitive; it’s like circling the drain, and I refuse to let that be my story.

So, we’ve crafted this tour as a kind of farewell—a grand send-off to this chapter. Is it the last shows? Who can say for sure? Life’s unpredictable, and I’m not one for absolutes.

But right now, it feels like it could be. One thing’s certain: no more endless rounds of clubs, pubs, or RSLs. Maybe a rare one-off gig down the line, if the stars align.

For now, though, this is my way of closing the loop—not the end of my music, but the end of the beginning. A pivot, not a full stop.
