John Lydon has once again criticised his former Sex Pistols bandmates and their current touring singer, Frank Carter. He described the group as “woke” and stated he’ll “never” rejoin them.
The former singer’s thoughts come after he described the band’s new line-up as “karaoke” in February.
“When I first heard that the Sex Pistols were touring this year without me, it pissed me off,” he said in an interview earlier this year. “They’re trying to trivialise the whole show to get away with karaoke, but in the long term, I think you’ll see who has the value and who doesn’t. I’ve never sold my soul to make a dollar. It’s the Catholic in me – that guilt I don’t want to trip.”
Lydon elaborated on those feelings in a new interview with PA (via The Independent). When asked if he’d ever consider reuniting with his bandmates, the Anarchy In The UK singer said, “Never, not after what I consider their dirty deeds, let them wallow in Walt Disney woke expectations.
“They’ve killed the content, or done their best to, and turned the whole thing into rubbish, childishness, and that’s unacceptable.”

He added, “Sorry, I’m not going to give a helping hand to this any longer; as far as I am concerned, I am the Pistols, and they’re not.”
Sex Pistols last performed with Lydon in 2008. They made their official comeback last year, with frontman Frank Carter (of The Rattlesnakes fame) in tow. This month, Sex Pistols Featuring Frank Carter will tour in Australia. The tour begins at Melbourne’s Festival Hall this Saturday (5 April).
In a recent interview with The Music, guitarist Steve Jones discussed how Carter helps to reinvent the band and their live show in an entirely different way.
“Frank definitely adds a different dynamic than John; he's got a tonne of energy, he's a lunatic,” Jones said. “I think the great thing about Frank is that he doesn't try to imitate John; he just kind of does his own thing, and he's a real rock and roller – he likes to stir it up and get the crowd going.”
Final tickets to the band’s Australian tour are available via the Live Nation website.
